This year's 63rd Venice International Film Festival, organised by the Venice Biennale, saw a bevy of international film stars appear at launch parties and press conferences to promote their films.
Held at the Venice Lido (from 30th August to 9th September 2006), four international juries were assigned to issue the awards of the Mostra. The juries and winners were:
the Venezia 63 jury who awarded the Golden Lion for best film to Sanxia Haoren (Still Life) by Jia Zhang-Ke; the Corto Cortissimo jury who awarded the Corto Cortissimo Lion for best short film to Comment on freine dans une descente? by Alix Delaporte; the Orizzonti jury who awarded the Orizzonti prize to Mabei shang de fating by Liu Jie; the "Luigi De Laurentiis" jury who awarded the Lion of the Future to Khadak by Peter Brosens and Jessica Woodworth.
The festival (which lasting 11 days) is aimed at encouraging the awareness and the promotion of all the various aspects of international cinema as art, entertainment and industry — in a spirit of freedom and tolerance.
